Impact Of Fractionated Irradiation On Tumor Microenvironment In Human Squamous Cells Carcinomas (hSCC) In Nude Mice Evidence shows that pre-treatment tumour hypoxia correlates with poor radiotherapy outcome. Using an hypoxia marker, pimonidazole, it has been shown that biochemical hypoxia in tumours before treatment correlates with local control after radiotherapy. However, biological parameters may change during radiotherapy, including several determinants of tumour microenvironment.

Computerised tomography (CT scans) provide incomplete information about movement of the prostate. To address this problem, a statistical model of motion as been created using Principle Component Analysis (PCA).

Source: www.medicalnewstoday.comA Practical Method To Deal With Differential Motion Of Target And OAR During Image Guided Radiotherapy Current image guided radiotherapy systems provide efficient on-line correction of target positioning. Significant motion, however, can occur between target and organs-at-risk (OARs), for instance for lung tumours (baseline shifts). If so, proper target positioning may lead to overdosage of OARs.
Source: www.medicalnewstoday.comMotion-compensated Cone-beam CT For Accurate Online Assessment Of The Position Of Lung Tumours High precision radiotherapy requires accurate tumour localisation for patient positioning just prior to treatment. Respiratory motion induces artifacts in cone-beam (CB) CT images of the thorax and upper abdomen which can prevent an accurate localisation of tumours. Respiration-correlated reconstruction has been used to correct for this motion.

However, moving targets represent a major challenge. By monitoring a moving target it is possible to make the beam follow the motion, shaped by a Dynamic MLC (DMLC). The aim of this study was to evaluate the dose delivered to moving targets using the RapidArcTM (Varian Medical Systems, Inc.

Health Action Plan 2004-2010, the European Parliament acknowledges the efforts made by the Commission since the action plan was launched in 2004. It considers, however, that such an action plan is bound to fail at least in part, since it is designed solely to accompany existing Community policies.
